Luminous Bodies at Sarasota Music Festival

  • Sarasota Opera House (map)

This captivating concert sandwiches two classic masterworks around a new work that will have its world premiere at the Sarasota Music Festival.

Mozart set a new standard for all who came after—especially in his piano concertos.  The concert opens with Festival Music Director Jeffrey Kahane performing and conducting Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27 from the piano.

Robert Sirota's Luminous Bodies was composed for the virtuosic chamber ensemble yMusic and Jeffrey Kahane on piano. yMusic appeared at the 2017 Festival to rave reviews and returns for this premiere. The title of the septet, Luminous Bodies, refers to the composers Sirota found most influential: Gershwin, Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Lili Boulanger and Fanny Mendelssohn (Felix Mendelssohn’s sister).

Schumann’s jubilant Symphony No. 3 (Rhenish) will bring a grand and joyful conclusion to the 2018 Festival.
