Tessellatum EUROPEAN PREMIERE at Kilkenny Arts Festival

  • The Set Theater John's Bridge Kilkenny, County Kilkenny Ireland (map)

For this late-night concert in the Set, two leading lights of Bedroom Community, the extraordinary record label/collective based in Reykjavik, team up to perform an eclectic array of contemporary pieces, including the European premiere of Donnacha Dennehy’s Tessellatum, a piece for violas and viols, specially commissioned for them.

Liam Byrne is one of the most innovative viola da gamba players in Europe. A member of leading Early Music ensembles (including the renowned viol consort Fretwork) he has also worked with contemporary composers such as David Lang and Nico Muhly. Artist in residence at Kilkenny this year, he performs his remarkable project Inside Voices at Talbot’s Tower, as well as a solo concert in Rothe House.

Whether performing solo, as a member of acclaimed chamber ensembles yMusic and Alarm Will Sound, or hosting her award-winning podcast Meet the Composer, violist Nadia Sirota is dedicated to opening up classical music to broader audiences. Her debut album First Things First was named a record of the year by The New York Times, and she has collaborated with artists such as Grizzly Bear and Arcade Fire.
